Changes in appearance:

She really is gaining a lot of weight. She’s filling out and got chubby cheeks! Still has those baby blues. Her hair is growing more and more!

Likes:

Singing to her, making goofy faces at her. She likes looking at herself in the mirror.

When we chomp on her belly, tickling her toes and feet, dancing. Spinning around in circles, ‘ooga boogah’ noises. Mock sneezes. Dancing. Going outside. When we grab her belly/chest and shake gently and make giggle noises. Tongue clicking noises, Running water, Watching the dogs play fetch or fighting, Laughing at herself in the mirror, Fart noises on her feet and tummy, Waking up in the morning to a smiling face, Being faced outwards, Looking at herself in the mirror, Sam’s voice and weird noises, Being whispered to, She still likes being swaddled a night, Loves her paci, Fart noises, the “ZZZ” sound as in Zipper or in me singing “Zippity Do Dah,” Looking out the front door at the rain and at cars passing by, Being around people and being held close, Sitting with me at the piano and listening to me sing and play, Chewing on her hands, Being bounced on the stability ball, Bathtime and warm water, Watching Pax and Ash play, Bicycle legs, Whistling noises (Sam has to do those…I can’t whistle)

Dislikes:

Blowing in the face.

She doesn’t like it when Ash howls and she doesn’t like it when I play my cello or guitar loudly (perhaps because it makes the dog howl?) She is slowly starting to get antsy when we do slow airplane with her, She doesn’t like being stationary too long, Being set down when she doesn’t want to be (she prefers to be in our arms or in our laps), Laying on her back when she doesn’t want to be, even for diaper changes, Being parted from her pacifier, Air being blown in her face, Tummy time for more than a few minutes

New Milestones/Developments

Still loves the blocks! She is starting to enjoy tummy time more. She hits the piano when she’s sat in front of it. When we do tummy time, she rolls up onto her forearms with a little help from me! She can sit up on her own for minutes at a time—of course she’s a little wobbly, but she’s definitely strong enough to hold herself up! She is becoming interested in my foods and drinks. She patiently waits for me to make her bottle and is able to hold it on her own.

Worries with Milestones/Developments:

Not really concerned, as we are working on it, but rolling over. Working with her on talking and making noises. She pays attention very well.

Sleeping Habits:

Bedtime around 8. Wakes once in the night to eat. Naps for a few hours during the day.

Eating Habits:

6 ounces every few hours.

Thoughts about the past week:

For a change of routine, each morning we cuddle and chit chat for a few minutes. I turn on the light, change her diaper and into her daytime clothes. Then, she goes on her tummy for tummy time immediately. She hasn’t given me a fit with that routine! She will play and be content on her tummy for a while, giving me a chance to get across the room to change into my own daytime clothes. This routine works well for us!

Daphs sits up on her own! She wibbles just a little bit, but is able to sit up on her own for minutes on end! We usually spend quite a while on the floor in the morning and afternoon playing with the self rolling ball and her blocks (She loves them!). She sits up on her own and stays entertained. We sometimes do tummy time after this. When she gets fussy on her tummy, we practice rolling from front to back and back to front. She then is okay for more tummy time.

I love looking at Daphne sleeping. She is such a sweetheart. When she sleeps, I can almost sense a calm settling in the room around her. So peaceful.

We went to a wonderful beach this past week at Botany Bay at Edisto Island. It was on a nature preserve, so the beach was intact. GORGEOUS.

And what’s up with the week counting? 23 weeks old, eh? When people ask, I just say “aww, just under 6 months.” Silly that I continue using weeks!

Also, congrats to a wonderful friend of mine who had her baby! Welcome to the world, Liam!
