Today was Daphne’s 2 week checkup on base. We just had her one week checkup at the birth center last week, but wanted to get her in the military system and get seen on base before our trip back to Kansas.
She was weighed, measured, and given the once over. She weighed in at 8 pounds 11 ounces and just under 21 inches long. She’s in the 61st percentile. She slept through the majority of the appointment and was groggy for the rest. She is in great health otherwise. The doctor, however, did notice a dent / dimple at the top of her butt crack and bottom of her spine. She said that it is probably nothing, but she wanted to order an ultrasound anyway to get it checked out.
My heart just about jumped out of my chest. I felt a mixture of fear and discouragement. Was there something wrong with Daphs? Would she develop a deformity? As the doc said, it may be nothing. Still, the ultrasound will give us a good idea. She doesn’t have any issue kicking her legs or stretching them. She moves around great. She rocks when she is on her knees and tummy. I imagine if there was a problem, it would have been caught with all the ultrasounds I had previously and at birth.
Sam, Daphs, and I then enjoyed the afternoon riding around. Sam took us to Canes Chicken and I must say…that has got to be some of the best chicken I’ve ever had.
We came home and enjoyed the evening. Plane tickets to Kansas are ordered, Sam’s got a bowl of ice cream in one hand and Daphs in the other, and I am getting ready for early bedtime. It’s been a good day.
